Appointment of John Morwell, king's serjeant-at-arms, and Thomas Cornewaill of London, draper - on complaint of Ursus Soucryng, soldier of Calais, that on 24 September, 9 Richard II, he received at London from Simon de Burgh, treasurer of Calais, a certain sum of gold of the king's money for paying the balisters of Calaia and by misadventure lost 149 francs thereof, which John North of 'Les Lymehostes' near London found and took to his house there and pledged for less than they were worth, and that Peter atte Hegge, constable of the town of 'Les Lymehostes', thinking that the said John had not rightly acquired them, arrested him, and without taking with him any neighbour of the said John searched his house, and afterwards when he had found the francs there, by fraud and covin between them, without warrant, released him from arrest, and that although repeatedly required by the said Ursus to restore the same, the said John has refused to restore more than twelve francs - to enquire and cause restitution to be made and to arrest and bring recusants before the king and council.

Northampton, Ôtailor' the king's suit for all felonies, trespasses and offences and any consequent outlawries by reason of the presentment on Monday after St. John before the Latin Gate, 29 Henry VI, at Norhampton, before Thomas Braunfeld, Benry Baldeswell, Bimon Philipp the elder and William Par, coroners in the town, on view of the body of William Hedge of Norhampton, ' wever,' that on Sunday before the said Monday about the eighth hour after twelve William Hedge and Thomas Osbatteley sat within the dwelling of John Broun of Norhampton, ' baker,' in the company of others, drinking and singing by turns, and there came William Cook of Norhampton, ' wever,' and made assault on Thomes touching his singing, whereupon abusive words, passing between them, the said William Cook and Thomas Osbatteley alias Botteley asasulted each the other, and William with a ' pykfork ' worth 2d. struck Thomas on the head, whereupon Thomas drew a sword called a 'custrell' worth 12d. and would have struck William Cook, but William Hedge intervened and was struck by William Cook with the ' pykfork ' under the right ear and by Thomes with the ' custrell ' in the belly (in ventrem inter viscera) on the left aide under the navel, making a wound 9 inches deep, and William Hedge lay sick till the fourth hour at dawn of Monday and then expired. " The certificate of Sir Simon Harocourt, knt., and Will. Fermour, of and upon thc examination taken at Burforde, in the county of Oxon," 11 April, upon a bill of complaint exhibited to the King's Council [by] Wih Hedgys the younger, of Bu[rford], against John Jones, late one of the [b]ailiffs of tho said town.
i. Copy of the bill, stating that on Thursday before midsummer Day last John Jones was charged by Thos. Thomson, then also bailiff of the said town, to arrest one Baynam, whom Thomson undertook to prove a traitor; that he attached him and put him to ward, but next day let him go.
ii. Answer of Jones, explaining that Thomson had called him out of bed to arrest Baynam, who later attempted to prevent the door of the town gaol being shut, and that it was only next day he charged him with treason for assaulting the King's officers; but Thomas Weyman, justice of the peace, to whom they referred the mattel, charged them to take him home again and punish him as an unthrift.
iii. Depositions of witnesses summoned by William Hedgys the younger in proof that Thomson had charged Baynam as a traitor at the time of his arrest. The names of the witnesses are Robt. Jacobb, Humph. Pypar, Wm Nicholas, Nich. Riley, Edmun. Sylvester, and Ric. Darnell.
iv. " Wituesses examined for the true proof of this matter." Thompson contirms the answer of John Jones in every point, also Wm. Hedges the elder. John Sharpe, Robt. Jonson, Thos. Richards, Robt. Payn, and Wm. Hewys of Burfold. Signed by Harcourt and Fermour.
